Marginalized Ways of Speaking: LISPING, MUMBLING, STUTTERING

2017
Dymo™ label tape on paper
30 x 22 inches each

I made this series with a Dymo™ label maker on paper. Each word, lisping, mumbling, and stuttering, is elongated phonetically to make the reader more actively engage in the act of reading. The work is a critical commentary on how we label “proper" and “improper” speech.
